This study explored data obtained from 1,526 surveys collected from visitors at four national parks during the 2005 season. Quantitative analysis revealed a statistically significant relationship between the frequent exposure to natural and/or cultural areas during youth and respondents' previous visits to the site, number of lifetime visits to the site, number of annual interpretive site visits, age, education, ethnicity, and youth community type. Statistical analysis revealed no relationship between those who had frequent exposure to natural and/or cultural areas during youth and interpretive outcomes. Qualitative analysis revealed three themes pertaining to an understanding of the NPS mission, associations with park resources and different experiences with the place. Importance of specific underserved youth are presented and discussed, as well as the need for further research to look deeper into interpretive outcomes. Through qualitative analysis it is also presented that visitors are possibly caring about, therefore caring for parks |
