"This collection focuses on the developing field of integrated education in conflicted societies, where children who would normally be educated apart are deliberately educated together. A variety of accounts from different geographical and socio-political sites - Catholic and Protestant in Northern Ireland, Palestinian and Jewish in Israel, and Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot in Cyprus, in addition to examples from Macedonia, Bosnia, and Croatia - are brought together, discussed and analyzed. In all of these accounts integrated education has been difficult to initiate, complex to sustain, and has aroused the suspicion of the local historically divided communities; nonetheless, those involved believe it to be essential in contributing to the healing of the wounds that afflict their societies, easing the path towards integration"-- Provided by publisher
