520 This volume presents editions of several catalogues and
inventories of texts belonging to the corpora of ancient
Mesopotamian healing and divination specialists. As a
milestone for future studies into Mesopotamian medicine,
the book includes the first complete edition of the Assur
Medical Catalogue, an eighth or seventh century BCE list
of therapeutic texts, which forms a core witness for the
formation of medical compendia in the first millennium
BCE. The editions are complemented by detailed studies
that analyse the relations between catalogues, textual
sources and the development of serialised compendia,
unravelling a complex history of medical text corpora and
healing disciplines in second and first millennium BCE
Mesopotamia. Through its novel corpus-based approach, this
book will alter the current understanding of Mesopotamian
medical texts and the specialisations of the "exorcist"
and "physician." The research presented here allows one to
identify core text corpora for these disciplines, as well
as areas of exchange and borrowing between them. --|cBack
