A Quick Turn of Soil is a collection of linked memoir essays that explore various turning points in my life, each of which resonates independently within a thematic sphere of culture and language. Through the following critical and creative exploration of event and memory, I have come to understand how my experiences as a child, a daughter, a Swede, an American, an artist, an archer, a seamstress, a renovator, a designer, a sister, a granddaughter, a well driller, a traveler, a wife, and a writer have shaped me. What evolves throughout the work is the landscape, the soil, of my life. It turns underfoot as I move from country to country, from moment to moment. It turns in memory. It is identity |
