Much of my work is interactive/kinetic and includes opportunities for the viewer to engage in forms of play and playfulness. Through the examination of seminal kinetic art and artists, interactivity, and through studying robotic and contemporary robotic/haptic approaches focused on object/viewer relationships, I hope to discover deeper levels of understanding of interaction and the relationship between the art object and the viewer. By giving an overview of interactive art, and comparing it with more traditional forms of art, I hope to refine my goals in this field by developing a deeper understanding through comparisons of similarities and differences in both approaches. There are many variations of interactivity that other fields use to shape design. Coupling artistic design principles with non-art interactive objectives can permit artists whose goal is connectivity between the work and the viewer. My goal is to find psychological and technological approaches for expressing more complex concepts that, through play and engagement, raise the interest level and evoke inquisitiveness of the viewer to principles and ideas that might have been overlooked in the viewer's realm of experience. I will apply these concepts and theories in relation to two works I have created during this period of investigation, and explain why these ideas were important on a theoretical level and how they shaped the physical aesthetics of these works
