Given the rise in students identified as having autistic-like characteristics that are impeding their ability to receive educational benefit without support, evidenced based interventions are a vital part of educational services. Children presenting with social and communication deficits require appropriate interventions in order to make progress at the same rate as peers without deficits. Each day teachers are faced with the challenge of providing instruction to their students and assisting them to make sufficient growth in all areas so that they are adequately prepared for the next year of instruction. With the rise in children identified with Autism Spectrum Disorder, teachers are encountering students at varying levels of social competence and social communication which directly impact their ability to respond to overall classroom instruction. The purpose of this project is to develop an instructional resource that will provide teachers with the understanding of evidence-based interventions for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Interviews were conducted with special education preschool teachers, autism specialists, program specialists, along with experts in the field of autism spectrum disorders. Utilizing information from the interviews and a review of current literature of evidence-based interventions, a training presentation was developed. The purpose of the training was to introduce specific visual evidence-based interventions as a resource for teachers to increase their student's social interactions and social communication skills within the educational setting
