520 The purpose of this investigation was to determine whether
there was a significant difference in creativity scores as
measured by the Torrance Test of Creative Thinking (TTCT)
following three different treatments with gender as a
control variable. The treatments were exposure to humor,
creative problem solving, and relaxation. The treatments
were presented in a posttest only, 2 x 3 factorial design.
Each treatment was presented 25 min prior to the TTCT
being administered. The experimental hypotheses were
tested for significance by a 2 x 3 factorial analysis of
variance. The main effects of treatment were found to be
significant in all dimensions of creativity on the TTCT.
The only significant main effect of gender was evident
only in the elaboration dimension. There were no
interaction effects of treatment and gender. The Scheffe
Multiple Comparison Test confirmed these findings. Overall,
the subjects who were presented with creative problem
solving scored significantly higher on the TTCT than did
those presented with humor or relaxation. Therefore, it
was concluded that the results of this study support
previous findings that have measured the effects of
creative problem solving on divergent thinking
