In a day when religious pluralism looms large it is important to defend the gospel while at the same time pursuing genuine dialogue with the religious other. The latter task requires serious investigation and study of the key doctrines and beliefs of other religious traditions, and also heartfelt gentleness and respect. This study argues that the optimal apologetic approach is one that showcases the inherent beauty of the Christian faith. This thesis will argue that when investigated via a comparison and contrast with the views of Hinduism and Buddhism, it is the specific characters of the agape love of Christ and the eschatological Christian metanarrative that best reveal this beauty. The response of love and hope they engender reveal the distinctiveness and beauty of the Christian faith---and, in so doing, its unique apologetical power |
