Application of the auction mechanism as a procurement tool introduces improvement opportunities in the area of supply chain management. Incorporation of the procurement auction in inventory modeling techniques, on the other hand, leads to challenges in evaluation of the material flow decision variables. This study is aimed to provide a method to incorporate the auction mechanism into inventory management. This research consists of two major topics and we employed different approaches to integrate the reverse auction into the inventory theory in each case. In the first scenario, we study continuous-review inventory models, with both deterministic and stochastic characteristics and when the bids are single-dimensional. The second scenario involves the case where the issued bids are multi-dimensional. This type of reverse auction is integrated into a single-period inventory model. This model later is extended into a multi-period one by using the stochastic dynamic programming method. The methodology introduced here would have potential applications in supply chain management and manufacturing resource planning
