A new and successful methodology for the bromination of substituted acetophenones, benzocyclic ketones, and aromatic compounds has been investigated. Previous methods of bromination involve the production of hazardous salts that are not appropriate for the environment. This new method makes use of a zeolite mediated bromination of these compounds where water is the only byproduct and the zeolite can be recycled for use again. This new bromination route provides an environmentally friendly method that constitutes an important solvent-free and waste-free synthesis of the bromination of these compounds
