In today's competitive electricity markets, where an open access to the transmission system is required, different transactions take place at the same time across the transmission system. These transactions could cause congestion in some parts of the system. In order to find out an individual customer's capacity usage of the system and their contribution towards congestion, a tracing method is needed which can track the power produced by each generator and consumed by each load throughout the network. A new tracing method founded on power flow proportioning principle based on the current divider rule is introduced to calculate the generator's and load's contributions throughout the system. In this method the real power (active and reactive) contribution is obtained. These calculations assist in ensuring that the market operates fairly, transparently and efficiently
