The purpose of this study was to evaluate the university services available to Aboriginal students at The University of Calgary in order to identify workable approaches and to form possible recommendations for more effective services. A survey was used to examine the areas of personal, social, practical and academic adjustments as well as the atmosphere of the university. Services were evaluated and frequency and percentage distributions were used to examine and report the results under these headings
The findings support the recommendations that The Native Centre should continue to offer the current services as well as establish an Aboriginal studies program. The Centre should also become more visible to the students, the university and the Calgary community. The University of Calgary administration should make a commitment to Aboriginal people by hiring more Aboriginal faculty and staff, re-establishing the transitional year program, and providing guidance and resources to establish an Aboriginal studies program
