The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether the use of the software program Self-Defense Kid Style, designed by the researcher, successfully instructed physical education students on self-defense skills. The computer-assisted instruction (CAI) program was designed using Macromedia Director. The software was tested on a heterogeneous group of 36 seventh-grade students from Marshall Middle School in Long Beach, California. The study was conducted using a single-group pre-test/post-test design. The data were analyzed using a paired t-test to determine the difference in the mean scores. The results of this study indicate that this computer-assisted instruction lesson had a significant impact on the acquisition of self-defense skills. The results further suggest that implementing computer-assisted instruction in the middle school curriculum can provide a powerful learning environment
