Thesis (M.A.)--Royal Roads University (Canada), 2006
The purpose of this study was to explore Nelson's perspective on tourism development. More specifically it explored if the tourism community should be communicating and collaborating, and what values were important to maintain during this time of increased tourism development. Qualitative data was collected from individuals who participated in small and large group conversations during a World Cafe. Results indicated that there was a narrowness of perspective in several areas. A more systemic perspective is needed for collaboration within the industry. Stakeholders must also look within the community and explore the values and vision that will inform a strong foundation for the future development of tourism in Nelson. In order to maintain productivity and work with constant change it is imperative to grow leaders inside the community. It was recommended that stakeholders begin by using an assessment tool to begin creating an awareness of future steps for the tourism industry
