The purpose of this research was to predict the influence of socioecological factors, including social support, perceived health status, barriers to health promotion behaviors, and selected demographic variables, on the health promotion behaviors of rural women with heart failure (HF). A correlational and descriptive study was performed with a convenience sample of 45 women 65 years of age and older who live in rural upstate New York. Multiple regression was used to test the prediction, and descriptive statistics were gathered regarding the demographics of the sample, the treatment regimens, and the influence of rurality on health promotion. The regression model was successful in predicting health promotion behaviors using social support, perceived health, barriers to health promotion, and selected demographic variables. Selected demographic variables included the New York Heart Association level and a history of diabetes. Health care providers of rural women with HF can use the findings of this research to augment positive health promotion behaviors
