520    How do cooperating teachers who engage in culturally 
       relevant pedagogy approach the mentoring process, and how 
       do their student-teachers respond to this mentorship? This
       study focuses on three such public school cooperating 
       teachers, and explores the ways in which they train 
       student teachers in their classrooms. A narrative 
       describing each of these relationships was constructed 
       from data gathered through cooperating teacher and student
       teacher interviews, supported by extended ethnographic 
       observation of each classroom. Each of the student 
       teachers interviewed characterized the mentorship they 
       received in these placements in highly positive terms. An 
       analysis of the data suggests that these cooperating 
       teachers' practices included the utilization of a  
       culturally relevant counter-narrative in their teaching. 
       In addition, the data revealed five commonalities in 
       mentoring approach which are presented as aspects of 
       culturally relevant mentorship. Implications for improving
       preservice training are discussed, along with 
       recommendations for future research
